Ragnarok World Championships, one of the intenational gaming community’s most celebrated event is happening right here in my home country, the Philippines. A recent visit in my friend, Carlo Ople’s blog confirmed this. This means that representatives from other countries that has Ragnarok Online will be coming over to battle it out with other teams, to find out who the best Ragnarok Team is for 2008.
This is a great leap for the Philippine gaming community as a whole and not just for the online players. I always felt that the gaming community in my country needed a little more boost, and RWC 2008 is a great jumpstart. It is still not quite to the general public that the gaming industry in the Philippines holds a lot of potential opportunities for everyone, and I’m not just talking about job opportunities.
If handled well, then maybe, just maybe, competitive gaming can be considered as legit sport by the public, just like how it is in Korea. Anyway, congratulations to the Philippine gaming community, this is great news indeed for all of us!
