I’m gonna talk about another one of my idols! This man is actually the physical embodiment of my blog, as he IS music and gaming combined. For years, his compositions have become an institution in its own right in the video gaming industry. Some of his notable works, despite having a simplistic musical structure, have become iconic in human society. Who is this man I’m talking about? Find out more after the jump!
Playing his own song
He is Koji Kondo, a Japanese composer, whose body of works are mostly associated in video games especially with the Nintendo brands such as Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong. But he is most well-known as the composer of the Super Mario Brothers main theme, of which has become an audio icon in the modern world. The original arrangement from the Famicom game (Family Computer in the Philippines) of the same title, was a simple two tone harmony with a lo-fi percussion sound. It is so easily recognizable that most people know right away that it’s the “Mario tune”, even today!
The Mario theme today has been re-arranged and performed countless times in several concerts and gaming expos. Here are some of my favorite renditions of the Mario song in full orchestra and a video of the man himself, Koji Kondo playing his song on the piano.

I will be featuring more of the wonderful music of Koji Kondo in this blog! Always stay tuned at The Master’s Den!
